Where are we heading?
As I was watching the 9 0 clock news on NDTV yesterday , there was a huge debate :
Reopening SriKrishna commission report – reopening Communal divide?... following its heels was another story … Kargil - forgotten heroes?…yet another… IIM vs Govt?
Where are we heading as a nation?.. After 60 years of Indian independence looks like we are exploding just in terms of a scared , self-centric, self –absorbed population…. headed by a progressively corrupt , felonious so-called governing body…
What is about the Srikrishna report ?? …. And a rethink on reopening it …?
But why after a good 15 years??... was the govt sleeping with their eyes open all these years?
It’s crystal clear that a genuine report written based on authentic evidences by an honorable judge, implicating a very influential political party of Maharashtra responsible for the 1992-93 riots is being used by another ‘esteemed’ political party to get an edge over their rivals by garnering a few more votes… while the implicated party threatens on more communal division if reopened…
The soldiers who, away from the public eye battles and risks their lives for the country and their countrymen are forgotten as fast as a blink… the martyrs from the Kargil war are yet not recognized!
The govt tries to influence decisions on appointments in autonomous institutions like the IIMs ?
But are these all just stories to be seen on news channels and forgotten… what are we doing about it??..
The other day we see a ‘Prince’ being rescued out from a deep trench and lauded as a hero for having survived the ordeal….while the whole rescue process was covered live on national TV….
Then followed two other similar incidents which sadly did not end well like in the ‘Prince’ case…
Here again what did we do as an individual, or as a society or nation? What did the govt do?
The first case was a good wake up call for all of us to actually go ahead and see to it that we avert more cases of this sort.. but instead we preferred to sit silent and then call the army for the elaborate rescue process and dig another trench to bring up dead kids!! and the news channels dint lose an opportunity covering it ‘live’ and bringing us updates at regular intervals… did anyone even wonder if the second trench is again left open for another similar tragedy?
As told the public memory is short , none of us bother about things which do not matter to us or affects us directly and get back to our self-absorbed persona….
Back to our normal daily routine and out of the world of news papers and new channels… what do I see around me…??
On my journey to office…. yes, with the ever increasing traffic and annoying traffic jams, covering a 25 km distance is a tedious journey of around 2 hrs… the things I can hear or see in these hours…?? Continuous honking n horning..with no reason… ppl around scurrying away to their destinations… few crashes of vehicles… abuses flying… a few men easing themselves by the road sides… a lot of garbage strewn …. fallen down wires... n mostly unfriendly faces…..
To think of it, haven’t we forgotten to even greet or smile at a fellow human being who we know works with us in the same organization.. we do not turn to look at the person who sits beside us while we take this long journey towards our workplace…
And it’s not a different case within the workplace as well… we do not bother to even acknowledge a person with who we are familiar by face….
Again do we do anything about it other than cribbing and blaming… we neither make an effort to become warm ppl and bring a change within ourselves nor do we do anything to clean up the garbage on the road… but instead quote “when everyone’s littering on the road , it doesn’t make a big difference if I don’t!”
Aren’t we as the educated lot of modern India supposed to do something about these issues..? Little drops of water make an ocean..likewise a little contribution from each one of us in some way will make a really huge difference….
But the saddest part is by the end of the day for most of us it is all about talking and discussing these issues and getting back between the cozy protected walls of our home.. and having a good nights sleep …
